BENCH Day
Back in 2008-2009 when I
was still getting the hang of squats, I went through a patch where my knees
kept hurting. If you look at my old videos when I was in college you'll see me
wearing knee sleeves thinking they would ease my pain and discomfort. It worked
to an extent but as I got familiar with the movement these problems went away.
In fact, from 2009 to 2016 I never did anything to aid my knees - it is only in
2016 when I was squatting 5x a week I began using wraps on one of the days
because my knees would hurt. My point is that, I think I am going through a
similar issue with my elbows and the bench press. But, all my bicep work is
paying off because today even though I messed up the descent on one of the band
sets: my elbow held up all through the workout and I hit PRs. So I can't
complain much.
Big bench day and I hit
some milestones I am very very happy with. I know a lot of these benchmarks are
really common for most people but if you'd told me a year and a half ago that I
am capable of lifting these weights with the type of injuries I have suffered
and with my history of glass shoulders I would NEVER have believed you. So I am
really happy that my approach to the BP is paying off. It is all about baby
steps and this is an exciting journey for me. On an additional note: Chained
Dips, Bicep and OHP training is working for my bench for now.
