DEADLIFT Day
Eric asked me to do some
rep work with 207 kgs 456 lbs which is a little over 85% of my 1RM to get some
form of a baseline to build from. I expected 5 reps because I haven't done any
rep work on deadlifts in so many months and I am so used to just handling 90%+
for triples, doubles and singles that I felt 5 reps was a good place to land.
Well, I got a PR @ 7 reps all clean and no real grinders so I am happy. The
last 3 sets were difficult because I was having a hard time setting up. There
is no issue getting the reps and doing the reps - once I begin I am good to go.
The problem is beginning the first rep. I am feeling very uncomfortable and
unstable at the bottom and firing everything for the first rep is really tough
to the extent that I am just unable to get that drive and "pop" off
the floor. This is definitely something that has to be worked on in the future
but I think my recent addition of Back Squats will help iron out this issue to
a large extent. This is because at the bottom position of the Back Squat, I am
squished between the bar and the floor - more than on Front Squats and that
discomfort is the closest I can get to resemble the Deadlift. Special thanks to
Diipen and Hitansh for being stellar training partners and hanging with me
through the multiple failed attempts.
